Seattle Center, July  12, 2003

It was a fine, clear midday over Redmond, Bellevue, and Seattle. I stood in Redmond for this shot, across the street from my lodge in Bellevue. Downtown Bellevue is to the left and downtown Seattle on the western horizon. Going over to Seattle Center seemed to be the thing to do and with Greg as my accomplice that's what we did...

I caught the bus in my neighborhood, destined for downtown Bellevue where I met up with young Greg...

From Bellevue we bussed over to Seattle, entering the Metro Tunnel at the International District...

We emerged from the transit tunnel at Westlake Center and from there we took the Monorail to Seattle Center...

At Seattle Center we heard surf music... a rendition of "Misirlou" to be exact, and we followed the sound, soon finding ourselves in the midst of a festive gathering. The surf band was called Django Twango...

Everyone seemed to be enjoying frosty little beverages from around the world, so we joined in and even toasted the Space Needle... and about everything else in sight...

Knocking back our hunger was not a problem...

And wouldn't you know it... Jeff from the Bellevue Tinderbox just happened to be vending his wares...

A local bluegrass outfit called The Haggis Brothers held forth...

Around the park... Greg taking an heroic stance...

The Yes Yes Boys... old time ragtime...

This was a festive bunch!

More surf & sci-fi sounds from The Manatees. The guitar player did double duty on the Theremin, an exotic electronic device that one does not oft hear...

As The Manatees ended their set we headed across Seattle Center to the Monorail... back to Westlake Center to catch an eastbound bus back to Bellevue...

Lake Union, then Portage Bay, looking toward the University District...

... and on to an evening at Mamasan's in Bellevue...
